Hancock County, Illinois

Hancock County is located in West Central Illinois. It is named for John Hancock, a prominent patriot of the American Revolution.
The seat is Carthage while the largest city is Hamilton. The county is bordered by the Mississippi River.
Hancock County borders Henderson, McDonough, Schuyler and Adams Counties in Illinois, along with Lee County in Iowa and Clark and Lewis Counties in Missouri.
Main highways through the county include US-136, IL-9, IL-61, IL-94, IL-96 and IL-336.
